Save the Date! Rye’s Homegrown Winter Garden Event

Hi everyone!
This Wednesday the 23 we will be holding our Winter Garden Event!

As a continuation of our extended winter growing season experimentation we will be transplanting some of our seedlings to the Gould and Children’s Gardens, and setting up garden hoops to protect the plants over the winter. Garden hoops are essentially greenhouses that help retain some heat from the sun during the winter, and let the plants grow continue growing, albeit a little more slowly.

Thanks http://ourstoneyacres.com/?p=362 for this great picture

We have purchased the materials needed to install our own (PVC tubing and plastic sheeting), and will be planting Swiss Chard, Kale, and Rapini! We are only going to make 4 hoops, and hopefully they will be a success!

If you are interested in attending the details are as follows:
Date: Wednesday, November 23, 2011
Time: 10am to 3pm (at the latest)
Where: Gould Garden
If you would like to come and help out please email us at foodsecurity.ryerson@gmail.com to RSVP!
