Rye’s HomeGrown (RHG) is made up of Ryerson students, faculty and staff who prioritize food sovereignty and responsible ecology. We employ a GROW to THROW (closed-loop food cycle) model and aim to create community by building innovative environments where traditionally siloed disciplines intersect and interact. We invite them to gather in spaces around a common topic – food. RHG operates 8 edible gardens on campus using a variety of growing methods and techniques. We provide a source of healthy food for the university community and act as a focus for on-going discussion, experiment and development of a sustainable campus, and ultimately a sustainable city.

Programs and documentation coordinator
Position: Non Union Casual- 20hrs/week at $13.50/hr
Duration: May 13th– September 27th (20 weeks)
Key responsibilities include; assisting with program planning and implementation, assisting with workshops implementation, project documentation, developing institutional memory and a resource database, as well as assisting with the building, maintenance, and harvesting of edible gardens.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
– General maintenance of edible gardens
– Assisting with the construction and preparation of the edible gardens
– Assisting with program planning

– Leading some programs
– Assisting with workshops, institutional memory, resource building
– Activity and participation logs
– Maintaining relationships with volunteers, partners, community and staff

Applicable skills:
– Keen interest in food, community building and urban agriculture
– Experience working with a diversity of people
– Enjoy working with plants, and getting dirty

– Must be comfortable working outdoors in hot temperatures
– Must be able to complete tasks within given deadlines
– Enjoy cooking
– A positive attitude
– A friendly demeanor and willingness to learn
– Organized
– Experience tracking data
– Experience working with Excel
